Hello, I’m Jo – the voice and passion behind The Wine Word.

Jo wine cellar

My love for wine started with holidays in wine regions – Portugal, South Africa, Italy, France and many more. I found the more I tasted, the more I wanted to know about wine. I was captivated by the huge range of styles out there and what went into creating them – after all how can fermented grapes be so different?

I decided to study for my Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) qualifications alongside my day job, achieving Level 3 with distinction in August 2010. The real eye opener for me was understanding that the ‘time and place’ is as much about the wine experience as the wine itself. And now, whenever I’m out for dinner with friends and family, they’re quick to give me the wine list to choose from!

A career change in 2020 has given me the chance to turn my hobby into something ‘real’. I started as the wine expert for The Green Apron – a wonderful cookery school in Coggeshall, Essex, run by my good friend Claire. Sharing my wine advice with Claire and her clients has given me a real desire to do more.

So now, from my wine cellar in Chislehurst, South East London I’m capturing what I’m enjoying in the wonderful world of wine. Follow my blogs and social media to find out more. And, I hope you enjoy the photos as well – they’re all my own.
